July feels emotional, reflective, and alive all at once. There is warmth and brightness everywhere, but the moon keeps reminding us that even at the height of light, something is always cycling quietly underneath.
After spending June building out our elemental vocabulary and learning the symbolic language of the craft, this month we are bringing all of that awareness into a more intimate relationship with the moon.
This month, we are going to explore moon magic together. I am planning on letting the moon become a gentle companion this July rather than something to track perfectly or perform for. Your intuition might already respond to certain phases more than others. Maybe you feel energized by the full moon, or deeply comforted by the dark moon. All of that is information worth paying attention to.
Moon magic this month is not about doing more rituals. It is about listening more closely.
The Seasonal Energy of July
July holds the fullness of summer. Heat, growth, emotion, and expression are all heightened. There is more happening, more stimulation, and often less quiet unless we intentionally create it.
On the Wheel of the Year, July sits just after the Summer Solstice. Light is still abundant, but it has reached its peak. A subtle shift is already underway, even if it is not obvious yet. Astrologically, July usually moves through the nurturing waters of Cancer and into the expressive fire of Leo. You might notice a pull between tenderness and confidence, between wanting to turn inward and wanting to be fully seen.
The moon weaves through all of it, offering rhythm, reflection, and permission to change.
Energetically, July tends to bring:
- Heightened emotional awareness
- Sensitivity to other people’s energy
- A desire for both connection and retreat
These are exactly the conditions where moon work thrives.
The Core Theme This Month: Living in Relationship With Emotional Cycles
Rather than using the moon to manifest or control outcomes, this month invites you to notice how lunar cycles mirror your inner world. The idea I keep coming back to is that emotions move in cycles just like the moon does. Awareness creates choice. Consistency matters more than intensity.
We are learning how to let the moon help us listen to ourselves.
The Weekly Curriculum
Week 1: Moon Phases
This week we are getting familiar with the moon as a whole cycle rather than focusing only on the full or new moons. I am planning on noticing how each phase actually feels in my body and energy levels. You might discover that phases you have mostly ignored are actually the most supportive ones for you.
Grimoire page idea: How Each Moon Phase Feels to Me
What to include:
- The main phases and their general qualities
- How your energy shifts during each one
- Emotional or physical patterns you notice
- Space to add notes over time as the picture gets clearer
Practice this week: Each day, check what phase the moon is in and take a quiet moment to notice how you feel. No need to act on it. Just notice.
Week 2: Daily Moon Energy
This week we are bringing lunar awareness into daily life without turning it into a task. I am planning on checking in with the moon briefly each day, keeping it small enough that it never feels like homework. You might find that even a tiny moment of awareness shifts how supported you feel throughout the day.
Grimoire page idea: Daily Lunar Check-Ins
What to include:
- Date and moon phase
- A word or two about your energy that day
- Emotions that stand out
- Any patterns beginning to emerge
- Moon Rituals
Practice this week: Once a day, pause and take one slow breath while thinking of the moon. That is genuinely it. Let this be simple enough to sustain.

Week 3: Moon Rituals
This week we are exploring ritual as repetition rather than ceremony. I am planning on choosing one small lunar-aligned action to repeat across the week and seeing what shifts. You might notice that ritual feels more grounding when it is familiar rather than elaborate.
Grimoire page idea: My Simple Moon Rituals
What to include:
- Rituals you already do naturally around the moon
- One or two practices you want to repeat
- How each one affects your mood or focus
- Notes on what feels nourishing versus draining
Practice this week: Choose one action to repeat during a specific moon phase. It might be journaling, lighting a candle, or resting with intention. Let repetition do the work.
Week 4: Full and New Moons
This week we are spending time with the full and new moons as bookends to the lunar cycle rather than high-pressure performance moments. I am planning on approaching them as pauses for reflection instead of deadlines for intention-setting. You might find that clarity arrives after the moon passes rather than during it, and that is completely normal.
Grimoire page idea: Full and New Moon Reflections
What to include:
- How full moons tend to feel for you emotionally and physically
- How new moons tend to feel for you
- Patterns you notice around each
- Gentle reminders to yourself for harder moon cycles
Practice this week: On a full or new moon, write a few sentences about what feels present. No goals required. Sometimes naming what is already here is enough.

Journal Prompts for July
Come back to these anytime this month:
- How do my emotions move in cycles?
- Which moon phases feel most supportive to me right now?
- What changes when I slow down and notice instead of immediately act?
- How do I care for myself when emotions feel heightened?
- What does having an emotional rhythm teach me about myself?
Books for This Month
I have so many books about Moon Magic that it’s hard to narrow down which ones I want to revisit. If you’re completely new to moon magic, I’d recommend starting with Moonology, but if you’ve dabbled in it, the other three are great choices.

What Comes Next
July reminds us that emotions are not interruptions. They are information. The moon does not ask us to fix what we feel, only to notice it with a little more gentleness.
Next month, we are moving into astrology and broader cosmic patterns. For now, it is enough to let the moon keep time for us and trust what the rhythm reveals.
