We’ve made it to May and this month we’re going to start digging into some divination techniques. After spending April exploring identity and beginning our relationship with our spirit guides, this month we’re going to practice listening in a more intentional way.
This month, we’re going to explore divination together. The best way to approach this month is playfully and lightly, without pressure to be accurate or gifted or really anything at first. Your intuition might already be communicating with you in small, everyday ways. You might also feel unsure how to tell intuition apart from imagination. That’s part of the learning.
The Energetic & Seasonal Context of May
May sits fully in spring, with summer just beginning to shimmer on the horizon. Growth is visible everywhere, and energy tends to feel outward-facing and alive.
Energetically, May often brings:
- Curiosity and experimentation
- Mental clarity mixed with intuition
- A desire to communicate and understand meaning
On the Wheel of the Year, this time often centers around themes of fertility, creativity, and connection with Beltane kicking off the month. Life is in motion. Astrologically, May usually moves through the grounded sensuality of Taurus and into the curiosity and communication of Gemini. You might notice a blend of steady focus and playful inquiry showing up in your inner world.
This makes May a supportive time to practice divination without heaviness.
The Core Theme of May
Learning to Listen Without Forcing Answers
Rather than seeking certainty, this month invites us to explore dialogue.
Some guiding ideas I’m holding this month:
- Intuition strengthens through trust, not pressure
- Divination is a conversation, not a test
- Playfulness often opens clearer channels than seriousness
We’re learning how to ask questions and stay open to response.

Week One: Intuition Practice
What We’re Exploring This Week
This week, we’re focusing on intuition itself. I’m planning on paying attention to first impressions and bodily responses before analysis. You might notice that intuition speaks softly, often before logic catches up.
Grimoire Page for the Week
Page Title Idea: What does Intuition vs. Mind/Fear/Anxiety Feel Like
What to include:
- How intuition feels in your body
- How intuition differs from anxiety or overthinking for you
- Situations where you’ve trusted intuition before
- Questions you have about strengthening intuition
- Symbols, themes, feelings differentiating between intuition and other feelings
This page can stay open as your awareness deepens.
Ritual or Practice for the Week
Practice: Yes/No Practice
Sit down somewhere quiet and take a few cleansing breaths. Once you feel grounded and settled ask yourself, is my name (whatever you name is)? Notice how it feels when you think about Yes. Then, think about how it feels when you say No. You might notice when something is true you feel expansive, light, you might see colors, etc. When something is false, you might feel constricted, tight, or see different colors. Practice that a few more times with things you know are a fact (like your age, your mom’s name, where you live). Play with feeling into it being true and feeling into it being false. Eventually, you’ll notice a pattern of what Yes feels like it vs. what No feels like. Once you feel comfortable, more unto more open ended questions. Notice what comes up. Check out the blog post for Intuition Practices to walk you through this more and to try other practices to grow your intuition.
Week Two: Spirit Guide Games
What We’re Exploring This Week
This week, we’re inviting even more play into our divination practice. I call these ‘Spirit Guide Games’ and it’s a practice where we invite your spirit guides in to help strengthen/develop your intuition and relationship with them. I’ve found the less serious and uptight you are during these practices, the better. You might notice meaning appearing through repetition, humor, or complete surprise.
Grimoire Page for the Week
Page Title Idea: Spirit Guide Games Log
What to include:
- Keep track of the different spirit guide games you’ve played and what came up from them
- Create and track your own games
- List the spirit guides that tend to show up for you most during your intuition development.
Ritual or Practice for the Week
Practice: Spirit Guide Games
Try one of the practices listed in the Spirit Guides 101 post. Repeat a few times during the week and see what comes up each time. My favorite to start with is inviting a spirit guide to give you a message from music. Then, turn your music on shuffle or put on the radio and half tune out (I do this while driving or listening to music while cleaning), intentionally do not strain and wait to hear a message. Let it come naturally. Eventually a line or a word will pop out to you. What was the message of that line/word?

Week Three: Channeled Writing Practice
What We’re Exploring This Week
This week, we’re exploring journaling as a divinatory tool and one of my favorite ways to connect with my intuition and guides.
Grimoire Page for the Week
Page Title Idea: Channeled Writing Session / Log
What to include:
- Practice Channeled Writing OR
- Summarize what came up during y
- Emotional tone rather than meaning
- Reflections written later, if desired
This page doesn’t need explanation.
Ritual or Practice for the Week
Practice: Stream of Consciousness Writing
Set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes. Set an intention to connect with your own intuition or a guide or your higher self. Write continuously without rereading or thinking about what is coming out. When the timer ends, put your pen down. What came out?
Note: sometimes you might end up scribbling by the end because the message is coming out so fast, don’t worry if that happens. Instead, focus on the feeling of what you were writing or even what you remember writing.

Week Four: Divination Tools
What We’re Exploring This Week
This week, the plan is to research divination tools that you’re interested in or establish a deeper connection with the tools you already have.
Some tools might be:
- Tarot
- Oracle
- Pendulums
- Scrying
- Runes
- Crystals

Page Title Idea: My Divination Tools
What to include:
- Divination tools you’ve tried and what their purpose is
- Ways you use your tools
- Tools you’d like to explore
This page supports conscious choice.
Ritual or Practice for the Week
Practice: One Question, One Tool
Choose one tool and ask one simple question. Sit with the response without pulling more cards or signs. Repeat with different tools throughout the week. See which tool wants to work with you and is the best natural fit for how your intuition shows up.
Journal Prompts for May
You can return to these anytime this month:
- How does intuition feel different from fear for me?
- When do I feel most open to guidance?
- What happens when I stop trying to be “right”?
- How do I respond to not knowing?
- What helps me trust myself more deeply?
Book Recommendation for May
This month, the books I’m recommending I read at the very beginning of my spiritual journey and I absolutely loved them. To me, these books created a foundation with my intuition and trusting that the things coming up for me weren’t crazy (*but please note, discernment is still a major skill to learn…not every thought is your intuition or a sign from a spirit guide). Here’s the books I want to revisit for this month:
If You Have Extra Time or Curiosity…
You might enjoy exploring:
- Automatic writing as divination
- Symbol dictionaries versus personal meaning
- Divination ethics and consent. See also, discernment.
- Intuition in everyday decision making
- Cultural histories of divination practices
- Check out this post about 30 days of channeled writing prompts.
Moving Forward Together
May reminds us that wisdom often arrives through curiosity, not certainty. We don’t need to know everything… we only need to stay in conversation.
Next month, we’ll shift into elements and correspondences. For now, it’s enough to listen, ask gently, and trust what responds.
