50 Questions to Ask Your Spirit Guides (Using Channeled Writing)

Your spirit guides want to hear from you. That’s the part that tends to surprise people when they first start this work. The connection isn’t something you have to earn or perform your way into. It’s already there, waiting for you to show up and start the conversation.

This post gives you a full bank of questions to bring into your channeled writing practice, organized by theme so you can find exactly what you need depending on where you are right now. Whether you’re meeting a guide for the first time, looking for clarity on a specific situation, or just checking in, there’s something here for you.

If you’re brand new to channeled writing and not sure how to actually do it, start with the How to Start a Channeled Writing Practice post first, then come back here with your journal open.

A Quick Note Before You Begin

Connecting with your spirit guides is a relationship, and like any relationship it builds over time. Some sessions will feel electric and clear. Others will feel like you’re just writing your own thoughts and nothing is coming through. Both are normal. Both are part of the practice.

The questions below are starting points, not scripts. Feel free to adapt them to your own words. The more specific and honest you are, the more specific and honest the guidance tends to be.

A dedicated spirit guide journal used only for this practice helps tremendously. Having one container for all your channeled writing makes it much easier to look back over time and notice patterns, recurring themes, and how the guidance has evolved.

Before any session, light a candle, place a crystal like amethyst or selenite nearby, set a clear intention, and give yourself permission to receive without editing.

Questions to Meet and Get to Know Your Guides

These are the questions to start with if you’re just beginning your spirit guide relationship, or if you’re sensing a new guide coming in that you haven’t formally connected with yet.

  • What does our relationship have the potential to become?
  • What is your name, or what would you like me to call you?
  • What is your role in my life and what are you here to help me with?
  • How long have you been with me?
  • What do you most want me to know about you?
  • How can I best recognize when you’re near?
  • What signs or symbols will you use to reach out to me?
  • Are there other guides on my team who want to introduce themselves?

Questions for Clarity and Guidance

These are the workhorses of a channeled writing practice. Bring these when you feel confused, stuck, or like you need a perspective shift.

  1. What is the most important thing I need to know right now?
  2. What am I not seeing clearly in this situation?
  3. What guidance do you have for me about [specific situation]?
  4. What is the next right step for me to take?
  5. What am I overthinking that I can actually let go of?
  6. What would you like me to trust right now that I’ve been doubting?
  7. If I could only focus on one thing this week, what would it be?
  8. What decision in my life is ready to be made?

Questions for Growth and Healing

These questions go deeper and are especially powerful during a new moon, at a seasonal transition, or whenever you feel like you’re on the edge of a personal shift.

  1. What limiting belief is most holding me back right now?
  2. What pattern in my life is ready to be released?
  3. What wound in me is asking to be seen and tended to?
  4. What am I avoiding that would actually set me free?
  5. What area of my life is asking for the most gentleness right now?
  6. What do I need to forgive, in myself or in others, to move forward?
  7. What is trying to grow in me that I keep interrupting?
  8. What version of myself is ready to emerge?

Questions for Purpose and Soul Path

These are the big-picture questions. Come to them with an open heart and patience with the answers, which sometimes arrive in pieces over weeks rather than all at once.

  1. What is my soul’s purpose in this lifetime?
  2. What gifts do I carry that I haven’t fully stepped into yet?
  3. What am I here to contribute or create?
  4. What experiences from my past have been preparing me for what’s coming?
  5. What lights me up that I’ve been dismissing as unimportant?
  6. Where am I playing small and what would it look like to expand?
  7. What does my highest self look like, and how do I get closer to her?
  8. What chapter of my life is ending and what is beginning?

Questions for Relationships and Connection

These are some of the most personal questions you can bring to your guides, and often yield the most tender guidance.

  1. What do I most need to understand about [relationship/person]?
  2. What am I bringing to my relationships that isn’t actually mine to carry?
  3. How can I show up more fully and authentically in my closest relationships?
  4. What relationship in my life is asking for more of my attention and care?
  5. What boundary do I need to set that I’ve been afraid to?
  6. Is there someone in my life my guides want to speak to me about?
  7. What would my relationships look like if I stopped shrinking myself?

Questions for Your Spiritual Practice

These are especially useful when your practice feels stale, disconnected, or like it’s lost its spark.

  1. How can I deepen my connection with you and my spiritual team?
  2. What ritual or practice would most serve me right now?
  3. What part of my spiritual practice am I doing out of obligation rather than joy?
  4. What new practice or tool would you like me to explore?
  5. How can I make space for more magic in my everyday life?
  6. What in my environment is dulling my intuition?
  7. How can I better trust what I receive from you?

Questions for Peace, Joy, and Abundance

These feel lighter but are just as important. Your guides aren’t only here for the hard stuff.

  1. What would bring me more genuine joy right now?
  2. What is one small thing I can do today to feel more aligned?
  3. What abundance is already around me that I’m not fully receiving?
  4. What does my ideal version of this season of life look like, and how do I start moving toward it?

How to Use These Questions

You don’t need to work through all 50 in one sitting, that would be overwhelming for you and honestly for your guides too. Here are a few approaches that work well:

The single question method: Pick one question that pulls at you, write it at the top of a blank page, and write without stopping for 10 to 15 minutes. Don’t read back until you’re done.

The themed session: Choose one category above and work through 2 or 3 questions in a single sitting. This is especially good when you know what area of life needs attention.

The weekly check-in: Pick one question from the “Clarity and Guidance” section each week as a recurring practice. Over time you’ll build a record of guidance that’s genuinely moving to look back on.

The morning ritual: Before you start your day, open your journal and write the question “What do I most need to know right now?” Let your guides respond before the noise of the day comes in.

Your journal and a candle are really all you need to start. Keeping it simple is the point.
